When a deceased person has to be transported from or to the Netherlands, we are at your service with all the service you need. We do the funeral transport by car for up to 1500 km. For all countries outside that radius we provide repatriation by plane from or to our mortuary at Schiphol.
Our room for reception and farewell
We can receive several deceased persons at the same time in our mortuary at Schiphol. There is also a room where you can see the deceased after arrival in the Netherlands or just before departure. Your wishes determine how the reception or ceremony in our mortuary at Schiphol takes place. A special, but small, auditorium has been set up for this purpose at the airport. It takes approximately 2 to 4 hours for the deceased to be released after landing. We are on site and do not leave the deceased here alone, 24/7!
In most cases, the body is embalmed for transportation. Read more about embalming. Upon arrival in the Netherlands or abroad, we transfer your deceased loved one to the funeral director that you have chosen yourself.
We take care of all formalities
Repatriation involves all kinds of formalities, such as contact with the embassy, a laissez-passer, an extract from the death register, possibly a doctor’s certificate and a release for transport. We arrange all these matters for you in the relevant country. We have contacts with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies and the BIG register.
IRU is a certified aviation agent and has a mortuary at Schiphol. Van der Heden has the right papers to deliver the deceased to the airline and also to collect it.
